Description:

Background Checks And Safe Hiring: Trends, Legal Developments, And Best Practices
Employers have long recognized that conducting due diligence on new hires is a mission critical task.

Firms cannot afford to be sidetracked by employee problems such as workplace violence, theft, false resumes, embezzlement, harassment, or trumped-up injury claims as employers can be sued for negligent hiring if they hire someone they should have known, through the exercise of due diligence, was dangerous, unfit, dishonest, or unqualified.

This session will review the top ten trends and best practices for when it comes to background checks and safe hiring, including the use of social networking sites, the EEOC approach to the use of criminal records and credit reports, international background screening, resume fraud, dealing with temporary workers, privacy, off-shoring of personal data, and tools to protect against workplace violence.

Learning Objectives:

By attending this training session, you and/or your team will learn legally-complaint best practices a firm can utilize to avoid a bad hire, yet keep itself productive and out of court. Specifically, we'll cover:

  • The current trends, best practices, and legal developments affecting due diligence and hiring
  • Cutting-edge issues such as the new EEOC focus on criminal records and credit reports
  • Guidance for using social networking sites
  • Tips for international background screening
  • Steps for dealing with resume fraud
  • Best practices for handling temporary workers, privacy, and off-shoring of personal data
  • Tools to protect against workplace violence

Cannot Attend The Live Presentation?

This presentation is also available in a recorded format, in On-Demand version, as shown in the pricing options below.

About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.

The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!

And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.

Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
